#Replace: Electricians hope to have Salt Rock lit up this night

Electricians working to restore power to most of Salt Rock are hoping to finish the job by 6pm tonight.

With a cable fault in Shad Lane and Mall 505’s mini-substations, the area has been plunged into darkness since last night.

Salt Rock councilor Privi Makhan reports that she met with the repair crew and worked on the remaining two high-voltage connections across from the Caltex gas station in Salt Rock.

Excess water and mud had proven to be a challenge getting to the cables and making repairs.

Most of Salt Rock has been without power since last night due to a cable fault in the Shad Lane and Mall 505 mini-substations.

Ward 22 city councilor Privi Makhan said power is expected to return in the next 7 hours.

“Last night at 9:30 p.m., a large part of the station was cut off, but I can confirm that electricians are on site to fix the two cable faults,” Makhan said.

Areas affected are portions of Salt Rock including Hugh Dent, Mdoni Valley, up to the main drag of Chaka’s Rock.
