Queens now has more residential solar panels than any other neighborhood, according to the city’s electricity company.
Con Edison said more than 2,000 Queens customers installed solar panels in their homes last year, bringing the total to 11,334 installations.
The amount of energy produced by Queens solar panels nearly doubles that of Brooklyn, Con Ed said.
“The pandemic caused construction pause and the recession worried people looking to invest in their homes and businesses,” said Lenny Singh, senior vice president of Customer Energy Solutions at Con Edison. “But it is a tribute to our customers that they have continued to choose clean, renewable solar energy.”
Queens generates more solar energy than any other county in Con Edison’s network except Westchester. In total, solar panels installed in the five boroughs and Westchester last year can produce 44.77 million watts of energy, according to the utility.
