Governor Pedro Pierluisi on Monday participated in the activation of a solar panel system at a Puma gas station on San Patricio Avenue in Guaynabo, one of 200 facilities the company plans to operate using the same method over the next three years.
The governor emphasized the importance of the network metering system connected to the Puerto Rico Electric Power Authority (Prepa) grid as part of the need to increase renewable energy production on the island.
“With every installation and every measure to reduce the use of fossil fuels, we are closer to the goal of protecting our environment and diversifying our energy sources for the benefit of future generations,” said Pierluisi.
Mario Sierra, general manager of Puma Energy in Puerto Rico, said the solar panel system shows the company’s commitment to renewable energy solutions with low carbon emissions.
“These efforts represent a significant step in transforming the renewable energy landscape in Puerto Rico,” said Sierra.
