Photo voltaic panels accredited and warmly welcomed
Plans by a district council to mount solar panels on the roof of his Skipton home were enthusiastically received by his fellow planners.
The Craven District Council Planning Committee unanimously approved Cllr Paul Whitaker’s proposal to place eight solar panels on the roof of his home in St. Stephen’s Mews.
Members were told the property was in a nature reserve and, while there would be visual impact, it wasn’t considered serious enough to warrant rejection of the application.
Skipton City Councilor Chris Rose welcomed the development, adding that the fact that it was a nature reserve didn’t worry them at all. She also welcomed the development of solar panels.
Cllr Richard Pringle added, “I fully support this and want to get the message across that most, but not all, of the applications we receive will approve.”
The application was usually handled by officials with delegated responsibility, but was brought to the committee as the applicant is a city councilor.
