Mitsui Chemical substances : Begins up Indian Enterprise for BIS Certification of Photo voltaic Panels

Mitsui Chemicals, Inc. (Tokyo: 4183; President and CEO: HASHIMOTO Osamu) announced today that the operation of a new solar test and certification laboratory for subsidiary Mitsui Chemicals India Pvt. Ltd. Ltd. (MCIND; President: Suraj Arya) in the Indian state of Gujarat. The new business launched with the support of the German PI Photovoltaik-Institut Berlin AG (PI Berlin) * 1 will be used by Mitsui Chemicals India in December 2019 to respond to the country’s growing energy needs.

Mitsui Chemicals Group has previously built a wide range of expertise related to solar power generation. Because of this expertise, the group has built enough confidence to register a Bureau of Indian Standards (BIS) * 2 testing and certification lab before any other Japanese company. This laboratory will now be used to test the performance and reliability of solar modules so that Mitsui Chemicals Group can start its BIS certification business.

  • Mitsui Chemicals subsidiary Mitsui Chemicals Tohcello, Inc. (CEO: KAIDE Takeshi) has developed deterioration prediction technology in its 30 years of manufacturing and selling encapsulants for solar modules (Link 1).

  • Mitsui Chemicals carried out the development and management as operator of the solar / wind power plant in Tahara, which went into operation in 2014 in Tahara, Aichi Prefecture (Link 2).

Mitsui Chemicals’ photovoltaic power generation diagnostic business is Blue Value ™ * 3 certified to reduce the greenhouse gases generated by photovoltaic power generation. This also includes panel diagnostics prior to power plant construction in order to prevent a deterioration in panel generation capacity. Through this business, Mitsui Chemicals Group will continue to contribute to solving social problems addressed under the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).

The company supplies the global market with tests, certifications and research and development work for solar modules as well as services for solar power plants.

* 2The BIS (Bureau of Indian Standards) certification corresponds to the Japanese JIS certification in India and can only be carried out by certification bodies in India. As of July 2018, every project to install solar modules in India must acquire BIS certification for the modules used.
