Singapore – A large ceiling fan in a Tampines cafe was removed from its position after being hit by a ladder. Its wings smacked against a shield, injuring nearby guests.

On Thursday (October 29), Facebook user Raven Qui shared photos of the incident on Complaint Singapore. According to the Post, the accident occurred on October 28 at Tampines Block 201 Triangle Coffee Shop.

In a separate report, Mothership.sg highlighted testimony that a ladder struck the blades of the ceiling fan and caused it to spiral out of control. The fan has been repaired, hence the tall stepladder that was discovered nearby. However, the workers had turned on the ceiling fan to test without moving the ladder out of the way.

According to an eyewitness, “the workers eventually closed the ladder, making the height a little higher than when it opened.” It is believed that the workers lost control of the ladder and it fell and hit the fan, the witness said.

Upon impact, the ceiling fan allegedly hit a sign, which came off and flew in the direction of nearby guests. Part of the shield that was removed from the fan blades was visible in the photos Mr. Qui uploaded.

Fortunately, the guests had cleared the premises before the fan blades broke off and flew around. The Singapore Civil Defense Force (SCDF) arrived at the scene after receiving a call for help in Block 201D Tampines Street 21 around 7:10 p.m. Two people, a 20-year-old man and an 82-year-old woman, were taken to Changi General Hospital for medical assistance, the SCDF said. The investigations are ongoing.

In response to the post, members of the online community urged guests not to sit near areas with large ceiling fans as this could cause damage if not properly secured or maintained. Others pointed out that maintenance should be done outside of business hours and not when guests are on the premises.
