The Frankfort Plant Board approved the renewal of a contract with Weatherization Plus, an insulation company it has paid to offer certified energy audits for private households.

Speaking at Tuesday’s meeting, Travis McCullar of the electrical division said when the program began last year the contractor could conduct 35 household energy audits.

“The board agreed to add $ 20,000 this year to keep it going. We reached out to the contractor … we want to continue and we will keep the same contract price, ”he said.

He asked the board to approve an amendment that would extend the contract through June 30, 2021.

“I think all of the clients were happy with the work, at least the ones we’ve heard of,” said McCullar. “We can start immediately when people let them into their homes.”

He said there were some houses on the list for February and March that had not been completed due to the pandemic.

“We’ll reach out to you and see if you’re interested in opening it again,” he said. “But we want to start with those who signed up and never got the service.”

FPB pays Weatherization Plus, but offers its customers home audits free of charge.

McCullar said $ 20,000 would “cover about 40-50 audits which will likely meet demand”.

Board member Stephen Mason asked McCullar if he wanted to publicize the program in order to spread the service among different socio-economic groups.

“We need to educate the broad spectrum of people about the opportunity to save money and take advantage of these audits,” said Mason.

In other business areas, too, the board unanimously approved the creation of a new position – the deputy superintendent for cable telecommunications. The minimum starting salary is $ 79,988 for the salary position included in the current year budget.

The employees plan to publish the position internally and externally at the same time.

The next monthly meeting of the FPB directors will take place on August 18th at 5 pm in the FPB administration building, 151 Flynn Ave.
