Electricians and their fleet: Survey’s key findings

A recent study found that van theft affects more than a third of UK businesses every year.

With this in mind, Vimcar conducted a survey asking thousands of employers in the electrical services sector to participate. The survey found a loophole in the sector’s fleet safety.

Not only had Every third employer in the electrician service sector has suffered losses from vehicle theftHowever, many also experienced vehicle misuse by their employers. 75% of employers surveyed asked about limited fleet use (e.g. only for business purposes), and 2 out of 3 employers wanted to track vehicle use with a telematics system.

A telematics system such as fleet tracking monitors the live location of all fleet vehicles and warns employers of suspicious activity. It therefore has the potential to save companies in the electrical services industry thousands on additional fuel, HMRC fines, and replacement vans.

The electrician survey shows that fleet tracking technology in the electricity services sector has the potential to fill a major security gap.
