Solar panels on the roof are coming to JP Morgan Chase’s Indianapolis bank branches as part of the company’s comprehensive environmental plans.

Rooftop solar module installation permits have been submitted at 17 Chase locations in Indianapolis since mid-February. The bank has 61 branches in Indianapolis and the surrounding counties, including 34 in Indianapolis.

The installations will take place in Chase offices in the United States, and each installation will provide 30% of that office’s annual electricity needs, said Chase spokeswoman Carlene Lule.

Lule confirmed that panels will be installed in the 17 local branches, but said the bank is not yet ready to release details on when the installations will take place or how many branches in the Indianapolis area will receive total solar panels.

Chase started the solar project last year at its Polaris corporate center in Columbus, Ohio, which has nearly 10,000 employees, Lule said.

When this installation is complete, it will be the second largest commercial solar array in the world after only the Apple campus in San Jose, California last year, according to The Columbus Dispatch.

The solar panels are part of a larger effort at Chase, the largest bank in the Indianapolis area in terms of deposits. Chase is the second largest bank in the United States after Bank of America.

These efforts include Chase’s commitment to becoming carbon neutral in the operations of its corporate buildings and offices, including emissions related to employee travel.

Last year, the bank also committed to allocating $ 50 billion to green energy initiatives.

Among other things, the bank set up the Center for Carbon Transition last year to help its clients with financing, research and advice on sustainability.
