About Barrenjoey Lighthouse

The Barrenjoey Head Lighthouse is a striking, heritage-listed lighthouse at the top of palm beach's Northern Beaches Council. It was designed by James Barnet and built in 1881 for NSW's Office Of Environment & Heritage to help protect ships navigating through dangerous seas near this small island off Australia’s eastern coast
The oldest surviving structure here dates back centuries before European settlement when it served as an important meeting place between native tribes from the mainland arise Organised using strategic mountaintops overlooking productive floodplains along rivers.

Built in 1881 from sandstone quarried on site, the lighthouse has been a prominent feature of Sydney’s northern beaches for over 130 years. The original finish remains unpainted and it stands as an iconic symbol not only to those that live nearby but also to people all around Australia!

The Chance Brothers Lantern House is an uncommon, rare or endangered aspect of Australian history. It also features a fixed optic and disused 1932 acetylene sun valve that are both present only here at this site.
